Bundhosen
Personal Project
This is the first thing I drafted. I was instructed through a book draft, and then how to adapt it with style lines and historical research. I also learned how to do piping and bias binding on this project.
I used style lines and piecing accurate to traditional bundhosen and lederhosen, but built the pants from a heavy cotton twill.

Finding historical bundhosen research was difficult due their current prevalence at beer festivals. However, I found out that generally these were adjustable leather pants passed down through families.

I started with a mockup using a basic pants draft.

I then fit it and drew on basic style lines.

I focused a lot on pattern matching, as it would be very obvious with the striped pattern.

The back panels are actually in two parts so the seat of the pants could be easily replaced, and I was very particular to pattern match this area to obscure the piecing.

The front closure took some investigating, so I looked at some similar pieces in stock and settled on this barn door situation with buttons to close the flap, and buttons to hold the flap up.
